OK, I just got back from a dyno/photo shoot with European Car of our '03 GTI 24v VR6 turbo. We also had a press car from VWoA which was an R32. We dynoed the R32 as well.
I decided to test the results of the exhaust valve modification (vac line disable) on the dyno. We did a few pulls in each configuration, and the results were as follows: +10 lb-ft @ wheels from 2400-4000 rpm. This was repeated a few times.
Conclusion: you make the R32 louder and gain free power from opening the exhaust valve via the vac line disable.
