The "3LB wires" are just the three connections required from the unit to the cluster so it can display in the cluster.

Your cluster should only have the big green and blue plugs on the back. (not the little red one in the middle as well - they are earlier)

The 3 wires go into the green plug as follows:

30-CLOCK
31-DATA
32-ENABLE

You will also have to add 16 to the cluster coding's first two digits with a VAGCOM, so it thinks it is connected to a radio/navi so it activates the display at the top to show your boost etc

That's the theory on how it all should work.

This unit works with the german clusters but i'm not sure if the US clusters have the 3 linebus, too. This bus is obsolete since 2001.

Yes, just like the Kufatec unit. But please keep in mind that this is no "normal" mini PC (car PC)! This is an embedded microcontroller system without any moving pieces like hard disks. The unit is fully compatible with the automotive temperature range (-40deg to +125deg).

Yes, it is the same. But that is not your problem If your dealer has installed the new cluster correctly, he should have coded the unit for your country. This coding changes the language for messages and units (i.e. kilometer and miles). If i recode my german 1J0 920 846F unit to US, everything works except the naviation system display in the middle cluster display. I'm not sure why this is not working. Maybe this is because the US R32 have no OEM navigation system.
So this could be your problem But it works in all countries with a CAN bus adapter. This is one reason why i'm building my own system Another reason is that there is no need to install additional sensors for oil temperature or anything else except non original equipment like boost.

Here in the USA, if we install an OEM NAV unit, we need a TMC box. *oops* Does that mean I won't be able to use the Kufatec module?

When you install the TMC Box you're using the infotainment CAN bus and NOT the 3 linebus (3LB). That was my suggestion, too

If your cluster has the red pin position on the back, then the three wires go into the red connector as follows:

12 CLOCK
13 DATA
15 ENABLE

Does your cluster have the red pin socket or not?

I'm pretty sure they left provision in the new clusters for the 3LB wires in case someone needed to replace their older cluster.

Try the following:

Use your diagnosis tool and connect to the CAN Gateway (Adr. 19).
Read the current module coding and rewrite this value without any change.

Also, make sure that the instrument cluster coding has the +16 at the first digits for the 3LB option.

But in fact, the 3LB software inside your dash could be removed by VW because this bus is obsolete since 2001. As far as i know, all US clusters use the CAN bus and DDP (display data protocol).

I will try that first thing later. The cluster is coded as 23230, and I have also tried 23430 and 23130. It is the Great Britian / United Kingdom (UK) R32 instrument cluster, not a USA one. (The USA one was a Half-MFA)

Here is the coding:

??xxx: add ons
+00 - no extra options
+01 - brake warning
+02 - belt warning
+04 - wiper water warning
+16 - Navigation/Radio

Coding 23230 means 16+4+2+1 = 23, so that is correct. Try recoding the can gateway If anybody has connected a CAN device like the MFD with TMC box, the 3LB part will be disabled.

OK OK, UK cluster But keep in mind that a lot of clusters with same part numbers have different software versions on it.

Have you verified the cabling (EN,CLK,DATA) against the pinout of the green cluster connector ?
